Season 20 of the oceania league would, for pottsville fans, be something of a new age. In a shock decision, the board would vote for renaming the club Pottsville United, due to the proposed merger of the Panthers and Mullets.

With all of its original rivals from previous seasons and the knowledge that the small new south wales club had not finished outside the top half of the table in 5 seasons with the exception of the starting season, were high in hopes of claiming their first division 6 league title. The rivals for Pottsville this year would be kaiserslaughtern.

The season started off well for both clubs, with Pottsville sitting in pole position with goal difference. The first clash between the two clubs was highly anticipated and Pottsville were hot favourites to take the three points.
